This muley buck had his head in the aspens grazing – and one leaf dangling from his mouth. I saw him in Rocky Mountain National Park in October of 2020. Two weeks after I took this photo the East Troublesome fire on the west side of the Park blew up, jumped the Continental Divide and landed in this very grove of aspen trees. The entire area around the Fern Lake Trailhead was damaged by the fire. This painting captures a beautiful scene and a moment in time that will not be repeated until Nature has had time to heal.
